Genius Coffee plantations grow in the mountains of Shan State at an average altitude of 4,000 feet (1,220 m). The year round cool temperature and sloping hills provide the ideal conditions in which to grow our Arabica beans.
Our traditional farming practices help to preserve local biodiversity; we grow our trees among the indigenous shade trees of the forest. We follow artisanal practices, handpicking our tree-ripened coffee cherries at their peak and processing using a chemical-free dry or semi-washed process. Then we roast them naturally, just as the Danu hill tribes that work the plantations roast them. This preserves the aroma and local character of the bean, and most important, produces a rich and delicious coffee.
Our plantations and processing facilities are located in Shan State, Taunggyi District, Ywarngan Township. Danu Hill tribes live in this area and grow sustainable seasonal crops and coffee trees. Genius Coffee will donate 10% of sales to Education, Social Welfare and Health to the Danu hill tribes who live in and around our plantations.
